Course Description
In Latin III, students will start with an extensive review of grammar forms studied in Latin I and II. They also will review the history of Rome. In Latin III, they will read excerpts from these Latin authors: Julius Caesar, Cicero, Catullus, Ovid, and Vergil. From these writings, students will analyze periods of history from the late Republic throughout the Empire. They will concurrently study more complex Latin grammatical forms.
Learning Targets
- Reading – Students will understand selected written materials on various topics.
- Writing – Students will respond to statements or questions in Latin; translate selections from English to Latin and Latin to English, showing an understanding of accurate grammatical structures.
- Culture – Students will explain how aspects of the Roman world differ from their own, recognize the Roman contributions to the modern world and utilize English derivatives from Latin.
