This course is a highly individualized, semester-long elective for students in grades 9-12 who test below grade level in reading ability. The class uses the Achieve3000 online reading program. This program gives students an initial reading assessment to set the level at which reading, vocabulary development, writing, and grammar content for the class will be delivered. Periodic assessments may result in adjustments to the level of reading material delivered by the program.
The goal of the class is to advance each student’s reading level by the end of the semester. To increase the usefulness and interest level of the class, assignments and reading topics are geared toward career resources and preparation for life after high school.
