Course Description
The idea with Grade 1 mathematics is to make the slow transition from rudimentary physical representations to mental calculation. We strive to develop a solid foundation at this phase because mathematical principles like place value, addition/subtraction, and more make up the core of what all the student’s math skills are going to build off of.
Learning Targets
There are several specific mathematical goals expected to be achieved by children at the Grade 1 level. They should learn how to accurately tell time, be able to count up to 120, measure lengths, and be able to add and subtract all numbers 20 and under. Visual representations can still be used in order to serve as a physical representation.
