What Is The AVID Program?

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a nationwide college readiness system in which educators are taught to hold students highly accountable while providing them with the academic and social support they need to rise to the challenge. The program is meant for students with high academic potential, a willingness to work hard, and the desire to go to college. eAchieve Academy offers AVID as an elective by invitation only for grades 6-12 and we’re the only online charter school in Wisconsin currently offering the AVID program.

The goal of AVID is to develop the skills needed by all secondary school students who want to improve their grades and go to college. The program trains educators to close the opportunity gap and better prepare students for college, careers, and life. AVID is available to students at the secondary grade levels and is accessible through our online learning platform.

The Benefits of AVID

The program pushes students to work harder by completing rigorous coursework designed to prepare them for college and to instill reading, writing, critical thinking skills, social skills, and more. These habits, skills, and behaviors are all needed for success in college, career, and life.

AVID students get support through tutorials and their teachers while developing stronger teacher/student relationships. For students from socioeconomic backgrounds that made college seem inaccessible, the program gives hope for personal achievement and promotes positive peer groups. AVID may not be suited for every student as the work can be challenging. Students are made to think hard and are held accountable to a high standard.
