K12 online school WORKS for Wisconsin students

Laurie

Parent

“We’ve been extremely happy with the school from the teachers to the counselors – we just can’t say enough good things about it. Our son is getting an excellent education, and the flexibility of online learning a huge advantage. We never realized how much time was wasted during the school day. He’s like a little college student. He’s very focused and he’s learning good time management. There’s a one-on-one feeling. The teachers are just phenomenal. He never got that kind of personal attention before. The teachers go out of their way to make sure he understands the information.”

“The transition was very positive. It was a relief for her not to deal with the school environment. It has allowed her instead to focus on the school work. We’ve been really impressed by the accessibility of teachers. It’s not just independent learning with a teacher proctoring the exam. The teachers are very responsive and willing to help. I’m comfortable she is in an environment where she can be successful.”

“One of the big benefits of eAchieve Academy is that students have teachers who actually teach a regular class every week through the live sessions. Those live sessions allow the students to talk to one another and ask questions of their teacher who is specifically trained in that subject.”

“As the kids got older, home schooling became more complicated to keep up with DPI standards. For me, eAchieve Academy is much better than trying to do it by myself. It’s more involvement for parents than if the kids were in a traditional school, but it’s not a crazy amount.”

“iQ Academy (now called eAchieve Academy) gave me the opportunity to live my life the way I wanted to. It allowed me the flexibility, so I could work professional with local theatre companies and rack up experience. That gave me the know how to stand on my own two feet in the community, the personal drive to push myself harder and the intimate knowledge of how I learn and think.”

“In college, there are a lot of courses with online components. To survive in an online environment, you need to express your needs well in writing and know the tone to take. I already knew how to learn in an online environment, so eAchieve Academy was great preparation.”

“My grades are important to me, so I wanted to try virtual learning. I was able to catch up the coursework that I missed and I really enjoyed the flexibility. It was such a positive experience that I decided to stay. The flexibility is both the best thing and most challenging. But it has helped me learn to manage my own time which will be important for college.”

“eAchieve has given me opportunities I never would have even thought of when I attended traditional school. The school not only allows me to study dance at a much higher level, but also gave me the time and flexibility to pursue national internships, scholarships, and education opportunities held throughout the country. For me the choice was simple – eAchieve is the only place where I could truly achieve all my goals and discover new ones. Thanks eAchieve!”

“Most of the people who go to online schools are really nice, and you don’t have to listen to others talk about what you wear or what you look like. They are your friends – you’re never really shunned.”

“Online learning gives students control over their time and space and makes them owners of that process. They aren’t getting it for someone else; they are getting it for themselves. In the security and ease of learning in their own home, students can go through the material more quickly and more deeply than in a traditional classroom setting. The students also learn to be good self advocates.”

“One of the neatest things about eAchieve Academy is there are students from all over the state and they come from very different backgrounds, so we get a lot of cool perspectives that the students share. As a history teacher, my goal is to have the students see that what happened in the past is directly related to what is going on in the world today. I want them to get to a point where they can make those connections on their own. If they understand history, they can understand current events.”

“I put together PowerPoints and lessons as I would have done for face-to-face, but now I talk to a screen instead of a class. With the eSessions, the students may get more actual teaching time than if they were face-to-face. And if a student needs extra help, I can set up separate one-on-one eSessions in the evening or whenever is convenient. Where else can you have access to a teacher like that?”

“My husband and I decided we wanted our children home for the middle school years to give us more control over their education during those formative years. eAchieve Academy gave us that opportunity. There tends to be more questions than face-to-face learning because they feel I’m more approachable than raising their hand and asking a question in front of the whole class. I try to reach the needs of individual students, so everyone walks away with the job of reading the great literary works.”

“Online learning brings out those qualities in students that they might hide in a traditional classroom. They might have a unique perspective on a topic but wouldn’t be bold enough to share it in a regular class. But in an online environment, they just open up and can be themselves. We do lots of hands-on ‘kitchen chemistry’ using tools that are associated with forensic science we keep in our households and using household items to mimic experiments that would take place in a lab. Some kids go way above and beyond in investigating on their own and sharing the results in their lab report.”

“The concept behind virtual education is being able to reach all kids. For one reason or another, traditional schooling isn’t a match for everyone, and it’s very gratifying being able to now reach those students. Kids create their own schedule, so they have to be self-motivated, focused and stay on pace by using their pace charts.”

Joyce Cupertino

Teacher

“We’re just a click away from the students. Even though I can’t see the students, I still get to know them and their work habits, and I’m able to establish a rapport with them through the live sessions. Communication is the key, and my students know I get right back to them the same day when they have a question. Our students in eAchieve will have an advantage in life because online learning is the wave of the future.”

“You are in control of your own education, so you have to be self-motivated and responsible. You can’t slack off. But the reward is that you can have more control and freedom over your schedule.”

“I like to be able to take my time on a project if needed and less time on things that are easier for me. I also like the flexibility to go out to lunch with my mom or work ahead and go on vacation.”

“Our local district wasn’t meeting their needs academically or emotionally. We looked for an academic setting that could be tailored to their needs, and eAchieve has turned out to be a great choice… I was literally in tears on the phone when they were telling me all the things that were available for my son and all the things they were going to do for him. I had always fought for services, but now we’re in an atmosphere where everything has been offered rather than me having to push for it.”

“eAchieve Academy is great about setting up social interactions with people in your area. Plus, I enjoy their discussion boards where you can talk to classmates, share pictures and posts but it’s monitored, so you don’t have to worry about bullying.”
