Wisconsin Charter Schools FAQ

What is a virtual charter school?

From the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction:

A virtual charter school is a public school authorized by a locally-elected school board, with a public school curriculum and certified teachers.

A virtual charter school is the only type of online learning that allows students to attend a nonresident school district remotely, thanks to open enrollment.

How are charter schools funded?

Charter schools are public schools, and they’re funded by tax dollars, just like district public schools.

How is a charter school different from a public school?

They’re both public schools, but charter schools are independent of school districts. This means charter schools have more flexibility with their educational curriculum. Each charter school creates its own charter, which outlines the rules and standards for academic performance.

Traditional public schools are run by a board of elected officials and must follow the curriculum determined by the state education board.

What are the benefits of a charter school?

Charter schools are subject to greater accountability for academic performance because they have more freedom to determine their own curriculum and how the school is run.

Our online charter school tends to have a more diverse student body, since pupils attend from all over the state and not just the surrounding neighborhoods.

At eAchieve, students have plenty of one-on-one access to teachers, and can study at their own pace. Because classes are online, you can customize your schedule to suit your life, not the other way around.

Can anyone go to charter school?

Yes, all students are eligible to enroll in a charter school.

eAchieve is tuition-free for Wisconsin residents, and students living anywhere in the nation are welcome to apply (out of state students must pay tuition).

Wisconsinites living in the state capital, on the shores of Lake Michigan, up north or smack dab in the middle of the state can apply to attend our online charter school completely tuition-free.
