Essentially, yes. In 1994 the official name of this field of study changed from home economics to family and consumer sciences because educators felt FACS more accurately represented the subject matter and learning targets.
Why is family and consumer sciences important?
Family and consumer sciences classes equip students with essential skills they’ll use in adulthood, including communication, resource management, childcare, personal financial literacy, the basics of nutrition and many other practical approaches to daily life at home and in the workplace.
Family and Consumer Sciences should be taught in public schools as part of a well-rounded educational curriculum. Every student, regardless of their background or home life situation, deserves an opportunity to learn foundational skills in life literacy.
