Basic Grammar

Description:

This semester-long elective is designed for students in grades 9-12 who struggle with the fundamentals of writing. The purpose of the course is to develop grammar skills to improve student writing. The course begins with a review of the parts of speech; further topics covered are capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure and fluency.

Learning Targets:

T1 = Communication Target: Students can effectively communicate for a variety of purposes to a variety of audiences. (writing, speaking, digital media)

T2: Vocabulary Target: Students can determine meanings of grammatical words and phrases and apply that knowledge when communicating.

T3 = Grammar Target: Students can use a wide variety of words effectively, including general vocabulary and specific literary terms, and adhere to the standard rules of English grammar when communicating
