English Language Arts
The eAchieve Academy in Waukesha provides an engaging approach for its Kindergarteners in a specifically created, all-in-one workshop. Our Waukesha online school provides solid core foundation in phonics, verbal communication skills, and basic comprehension.
The eAchieve language arts portion for kindergarteners seeks to work to create a lesson plan working collaboratively with all Wisconsin state standards. The English language arts section can actually be broken down into three different categories: Reading, Writing, and Speaking/Listening.
In relation to reading at this level we try and keep lessons pretty basic. Students should be able to answer questions about the major events in a text, make some sort of relationship with similar stories, and be able to identify the key parts of the story (setting, characters, and main events.) A basic recognition of the different types of text, including but not limited to poems, storybooks, and short stories should be gradually acquired as well.
Writing skills at the kindergarten level tend to use a combination of drawing, dictation, and actual writing with large amount of assistance (particularly in the writing process) by adults. This essentially accomplishes three goals at once by allowing children to accurately express their ideas into their own words, as well as develop an actual premise for writing. The key thing to remember as an educator at this phase is the actual process for writing itself relies on a great deal of collaboration with adults at this stage. We want to focus more on comprehension rather than discourage students who aren’t quite developed enough to begin the physical process of basic writing.
eAchieve mathematics lesson plans focus on two main aspects of mathematics at the Kindergarten level. First, in compliance with Wisconsin state standards we want for our students to understand the basic concepts behind whole numbers. Second, we focus solely on the two fundamental concepts of shapes and space.
In relation to learning simple whole number concepts we expect our courses to adequately teach a variety of basic concepts. Most importantly a physical link between what the number actually is should be clearly established. This is accomplished by using a lot of physical items to visually represent numbers, equations, and other forms of basic math. Counting is of the upmost importance at this point in the education process. At this level students will also learn their basic 2-D shapes. This can be done through the use of physical models, identification of shape in everyday objects, and eventually students will be moved into the more advanced realm of 3-D shapes.
Health and Physical Education
In line with standards set by the state of Wisconsin, eAchieve.com offers health and physical education lesson plants built around teaching students what they should know and be able to do in order to contribute to protecting and promoting their overall health, in and out of the learning environment.
At this stage in their learning process, eAchieve students will work on developing age-appropriate understanding of health concepts. This will be done through teaching our students the ability to describe healthy practices, such as preventing accidents and injuries. Our learning targets will expand from this point and will include helping students learn to identify ways they can move safer through the world when dealing with communicable diseases. Identifying influences and how they affect behaviors at this point in their education will be a key in their K-5 learning. Our students will also be taught how to identify emotional, physical, and environmental factors able to influence their health decisions.
Apart from these lessons, our students will be informed on new ways they can move and be active. Basic locomotor and manipulative skills will be covered along with their ability to travel, bear weight, and complete balance activities through different functions and parts of the body. With a focus on weight transfer, dance, personal space, and jumping skills, our Kindergarten level students will rapidly progress towards being better equipped to practice better, safer physical health.
Technology, Business, and Information Literacy
Basing our plans off of the state of Wisconsin’s education standards, eAchieve Academy has technology, business, and information literacy learning targets for our Kindergarten students. From identifying problems or questions needing to be resolved or determining what is already known about a problem or question, the building blocks for developing problem solving skills are available through our online program at eachieve.com.
It’s at this level of education children can begin to learn surprising amounts of information. We teach our youngest students the ability to form questions used to figure out what more information they need when solving a problem. Our students are also taught how to seek out information, whether it be from human or non-human resources, such as books or computers. Categorizing ideas and phrases in order to sort through information will be learned in this program, but it will be relatively simple for our Kindergarten students, as they may have to identify items a business owns.
Our students will work creatively on their own or with others to develop resolutions for problem and decisions. This may be done through games and activities or art projects. Students will also practice using available information from personal knowledge and experience to produce solutions for new situations and will begin to practice communicating thoughts and feelings to others using verbal and non-verbal forms of language.
Art and Design
Waukesha’s eAchieve Academy follows the state of Wisconsin’s education standards for all of our courses. When it comes to our art and design program, we value growing creative skills just as much as logical or technical abilities with our focus on visual memory and shape recognition development.
At this young stage in life, it is our goal to have our students develop a basic mental storehouse of images. These images will be made up of colors, shapes, animals, and buildings the individual can create their own associations for. Along with basic images, our Kindergarten students will learn simple vocabulary related to art and about the styles of art from different times and parts of the world. Our students will also learn about art being one of the greatest achievements of human beings and how it’s used as a basic way of thinking and communicating about the world, most times without words.
Kindergarteners will gain the basic understanding of artists throughout history have used art as a catalyst to develop functions, structures, and designs in the world. Children of all ages must know how art is shaped by culture, society, and specific times in history, meaning art will have different meanings in separate parts of the globe. Kindergarteners will be introduced to the environmental and aesthetic issues related to the design of packaging and industrial products while exploring the elements and principles of quality design.
In a time shaped by technological advances, it is easy to forget the world outside of the man-made. eAchieve Academy follows standards set by the state of Wisconsin, offering a comprehensive environmental course for all grade levels to help our students better understand the impacts of human activity and progression.
During their time in Kindergarten, our students will be expected to gain a basic understanding of their environment. From environmental investigations to possible gardening, collecting information and making simple predictions will help give our students a basic understanding of the natural environment existing outside their doors. Whether it be the effects of pollution or photosynthesis, our students will develop answers, draw conclusions, and revise their personal understanding, as needed, based on the outcomes of their investigations. By the end of this course, students should be able to communicate a basic understanding of their environment to others in simple terms.
eAchieve Academy offers one of the best, most comprehensive, engaging online high school alternative options in Wisconsin, partly because it continues to offer a full curriculum failing to neglect any aspect of a child’s developmental needs. With music, eAchieve focuses on building students’ creative and mathematical skills through expression.
Our music lesson plans are structured around standards outlined by the state of Wisconsin. In Kindergarten, our students will begin to establish their musical knowledge by practicing singing independently and in rhythm with a beat at a steady tempo. Our youngest students will also be challenged to begin singing expressively, utilizing dynamic, phrasing, and interpretation techniques. We will also work on singing from memory, to help build a repertoire of songs for our students to remember. Students will sing in groups, both in a casual setting and with instruction from a teacher or conductor.
