DESCRIPTION:

In this course, the student will be exposed to introductory material in the areas of the scientific process, chemistry, physics, earth science, and biology. Specifically, the topics encountered are the nature of science, measurement, earth's surface, Earth's history, minerals and rocks, matter, energy, forces and motion, biological cells, reproduction and heredity, and interactions of living things.

The students encounter the information through various print, audio, and video online sources, real-time instruction, discussion board exchanges, and research for projects. Their achievement is assessed according to their grasp of the concepts and their ability to apply those concepts to real-world situations. These assessments take the form of objective quizzes, journal writing, discussion board posts, project work, and written papers.

LEARNING TARGETS:

T2: Know, use, and interpret scientific concepts correctly and appropriately

T3: Recognize and apply crosscutting concepts as they appear in core scientific ideas as well as through time.
