Doctors need a strong grasp of anatomy, physiology, biology and chemistry. eAchieve has introductory and advanced high school science classes for pre-med students.
Anatomy and Physiology is a class which covers cell and tissue studies along with understanding organs. This is a great class for future doctors. There are two prerequisites: Biology and Chemistry. Introductory Biology is available for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade while Chemistry classes are limited to grades 10-12. Chemistry has one prerequisite, Algebra 1.
Biology and Chemistry on their own form a good foundation for pre-med studies. Both class form the basis of biochemistry. AP Biology and AP Chemistry courses are available for students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade.

Math, particularly statistics and algebra, are an important part of pre-med study. You’ll need to know your numbers in order to follow data charts and medication tables.
AP Calculus AB/BC are recommended for high schoolers planning on going pre-med. Most medical schools require at least some level of calculus for admission. Others will only require a semester of college-level math. Taking an AP math class in high school can give you the credit you need to avoid taking unnecessary math courses in college.

In your practice you’ll likely treat patients who speak little or no English. While interpreters are available, speaking a second language can make you a more valuable job candidate for competitive positions, and make your working life easier. Spanish is recommended, as it’s widely spoken, and Latin would also be a good choice for future doctors since so many medical terms are based on Latin words.

Social Studies courses
Psychology is a great course for future doctors to take in high school (we also offer AP Psychology if you want to dive deeper). A patient’s mental health and behavior can be affected by illness or injury, so having an understanding of basic psychology can help you cultivate a professional and compassionate bedside manner.
It’s important to keep your grades up in all required social studies courses to maintain a high GPA. Online learning can make it easier for motivated students to handle a heavy courseload because you can go at your own pace and learn without the restrictions of a traditional classroom schedule.

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
Medical schools want to admit only the best and the brightest future doctors. Taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes in high school can demonstrate your potential to colleges and universities. Even better – you can earn college credit in high school! And passing an AP class in high school can let you opt out of freshman or 100-level university courses. This means fewer semesters of undergraduate work and early application to med school.
